The last thing you need is to be weighed down by the lingos of the industry. In this article, we share what it takes to be a RI (registered inspector) and the role they play in obtaining your Fire Safety Certificate for your premise or building.
A Registered Inspector (RI) is a person who is registered under the Fire Safety Act to be qualified and competent to inspect fire safety works in buildings to ascertain the degree of compliance of fire safety requirements.
Registered Inspectors are required so long as there are fire safety works involved in the project that need to be inspected and certified.
Building owners are required to engage RIs to inspect their projects before the Qualified Person (QP) submits the application for a Temporary Fire Permit (TFP) or Fire Safety Certificate (FSC) to FSSD.

There are 2 types of RI:
An Architectural registered inspector, known as RI(A), specializes in the Architectural building aspect of fire safety works.
A Mechanical & Electrical registered inspector, known as RI(M & E) specializes in Mechanical & Electrical aspects of fire protection works.
The type of registered inspector (RI) to engage will depend on the type of fire safety works that is carried out. Both types of RI may be needed to inspect the project in some situations.
