WHAT ARE REGULATED FIRE SAFETY PRODUCTS?

… and why does it matter to you as a landlord, tenant or lessee?

Fire safety products are items such as hose reel, fire alarm panels, emergency light, exit sign, fire rated doors, so on and so forth.

There is a list of fire safety products and materials that are regulated by SCDF. These regulated fire safety products and materials are required to comply with the acceptable standards and are subjected to strict surveillance regime in the form of testing and factory/site inspection. Fire safety works are required to ensure occupant’s safety, protection of properties, prevention of fire spread and for the fire fighter’s accessibility & safety as well.

As a landlord, tenant or lessee, you have to know that your fire safety products under the product listing scheme are required to be affixed with a “serial label” issued by one of the (presently) three certified bodies recognized by SCDF. There are: TUV SUD PSB Pte Ltd, SETSCO Services Pte Ltd and Singapore Test Services Pte Ltd. The labels will trace back to the product’s corresponding Certificate of Conformity (CoC) and the installation location of the product.

Do you know that these “Serial labels” are not allowed to be tampered with? If found missing or damaged, a police report shall be made before replacement labels can be obtained from the certified bodies.
