INDUSTRY LINGO:

URBAN REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (URA)

… When do you require URA submission for your development?

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is a statutory board under the Ministry of National Development. Planning Permission must be obtained from URA for all building projects, except minor development or works that could be exempted.

Development owners are advised to engage a qualified person (QP) to prepare the building plans for submission to the Development Control Group for the application to obtain planning permission.

Any work that involves change of use, change in quantum, increase in GFA, subdivision or works in conservation areas are required to obtain approval. The granted approval is called the Written Permission (WP).

WP will lapse two years from the day it was granted. If the development is not completed by the date stated on it. An application for extension can be made to the URA before the WP lapses.
