RTO: Resident Technical Officer
In this article, we share with you the role of a Resident Technical Officer (RTO) or Resident Engineer (RE) for your project.
The Resident Technical Officer (RTO) is a civil or structural engineering trained individual who ensures that there is adequate and proper supervision of the structural aspects of the construction work.
Some of the function of an RTO is to perform material checks, foundation works supervision, structural steelworks supervision, and concreting works supervision. They review and check all drawings, specifications and ensure that works such as safety barrier are carried out in accordance with the approved PE’s design.
Only those who are accredited by the IES-ACES Joint Accreditation Committee can continue as qualified site supervisors to supervise the structural aspects of all construction works. You can access the full list of certified RTOs here.
