HOW TO GET FIRE SAFETY CERTIFICATE?
6 steps to obtaining your Fire Safety Certificate before operating your premises in Singapore
A Fire Safety Certificate (FSC) is required for all premises in Singapore undergoing A&A or a change in layout as it may require relocation of fire safety products or affect the means of escape. The FSC ensures the safety of the building’s occupants and has to be obtained before the tenant can occupy and use the premises. Learn more about when you are required to obtain FSC for your premise.
Here are 6 steps to obtaining your FSC so that you can plan the opening of your premise early.
1. Appointment
Engage an Architectural Qualified Person (QP) first. The QP Architect will determine if another QP (M&E) is required based on the scope of works and the site.
2. Planning & Checks
The QP (Architect) will work with you to plan your premises and prepare documents and drawings to make a formal submission to FSSD.
3. Notice of Approval
The QP (Architect) will obtain a Notice of Approval for Building Plan. Expected agency processing time is 1 week.
4. Renovation
With the approved drawings, works can now commence on site. The completeness of fire safety works will be inspected by the QP (Architect) during the renovation period and once completed.
5. Site Inspection
Appointed Registered inspector(s) (RI) will carry out site inspection with the QP (Architect) & contractor for the Project.
6. Fire safety Certificate Application
If all works are in order, Form 1 & Annex A will be issued by the RI(s) and QP (Architect) will follow up with another submission to apply for the Fire Safety Certificate. Expected agency processing time is 1 week.
*Most QP (Architects) will facilitate their clients to engage QP (M&E), RI (Arch), RI (M&E) where necessary.
