INDUSTRY LINGO: FIRE SAFETY CERTIFICATE (FSC) VS TEMPORARY FIRE PERMIT (TFP)
FSC: Fire Safety Certificate | TFP: Temporary Fire Permit
What is the difference between FSC & TFP? In this article, we share when Temporary Fire Permit can be considered for the project and its validity.
A Fire Safety Certificate (FSC) is required under the Fire Safety Act for all premises when a person wishes to change the design and layout of fire compartments or spaces that affect means of escape or relocation of fire safety products. Only upon completion of fire safety works will the FSC be issued, and occupation of the premises be allowed.
A Temporary Fire Permit (TFP) on the other hand, allows occupation and usage of the premises (typically up to a maximum of 6 months). The TFP validity timeframe depends on the size, type, and complexity of the project and is subjected to the written conditions issued with the TFP. TFP will only be recommended by the Qualified Person (QP) when the premise is safe for occupation and fire safety works have been satisfactorily completed with only minor outstanding issues.
The Qualified Person (QP) will apply for the FSC on behalf of the owner after the remaining works have been completed and inspection certificate released by the Registered Inspector (RI) engaged for the project.
If the Fire Safety Certificate (FSC) is not obtained within the stipulated timeframe, the Temporary Fire Permit (TFP) will lapse. The occupation of premises without a valid Fire Safety Certificate is in contravention of the Fire Safety Act and the owner is liable for court prosecution.
